So you got the PS3? I haven't played it yet, but I already know for sure that there will be strip clubs, where you can see half-naked women, drinking, drugs (usually smoked,) and "date nights" where, at the end, the screen goes blank and you hear moaning. And then, there's the massive amount of violence and swearing. If your parents are fine with that, then you're good to go.

anyway, according to your description of the strip clubs, I'm sure thats already enough to make my parents say no. But it makes me wonder if they're avoidable in the game, but then again, I'm sure there is some insane mission where you have to head into one. The swearing and violence, my parents don't appreciate it too much, but they'll tolerate it but it still surprises me how someone will go "FUCK!" in a game and they'll go "what did they just say?" :rolleyes:

It just means "eh". It means I'm sure it's going to be great and all that in it's own way, but I'm not too excited about the negative impact it's going to have on the gaming industry due to the huge outburst of complaints against it once it comes out and people actually play it.

That said, I'll definitely try to play it. I'm actually chipping in a few bucks so my friend can go pre-order a copy and he's going to let me come over to his house frequently to play it. :P

I'm not so sure how I feel about it receiving a perfect 10 from pretty much everybody, though. :\

That pretty much happens whenever a GTA game comes out, not like it matters really...all the complaining only serves to make people want to play it more. So I wouldn't really consider more attention/money for the game industry to be a "negative" impact. Especially if the game is fantastic like GTA, I have no problems with it.

Slight slip of the tongue (or rather, fingers) there; let me clarify: There is no doubt going to be a mass of complaints directed toward GTAIV, Rockstar, and the gaming industry in general, and while yes, that does make people want to play the game more, it also affects the public view of video games.

For the non-gamers of the world - who make up a large percentage of the population - all negative press directed towards this game is just going to give their anti-game crusade more ammunition.

Lucky you lol. I bought my PS2 two years after it's original release.
But hey, I got MGS3 early since I pre-ordered it from WoolWorths and they posted it to me a week before release. I was one of the many people around Luton (where I live) to experience it first. NO JOKE.

And yeah back to what this thread was made for, my friend already got GTA IV early. He pre-ordered way back with the first trailer from Play.com and they shipped it around 3 days ago.

I only know 3 other games that gamespot gave perfect 10 ratings: (there might be one or two more that I missed)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Chrono Cross (PSX)
Soul Calibur (Dreamcast)

Runner ups
Tekken 3 (PSX) Got an almost perfect rating of 9.9

Boku desu, reporting after the first four hours of GTA4. First off, the game is very realistic, the cars act much more like cars should, than in the previous games, I'm still getting used to it. I haven't quite gotten into the radio stations yet, but I think I heard a little bit of Lazlow. The city is really tightly packed and feels like an actual city, you don't get a lot of chances to accelerate to full speed. There has been so far no drops in the frame-rate, though once I have suffered from textures popping up from nowhere (I saw an empty alley, which I could use to flee from the cops, but suddenly some tables spawned in there and I crashed pretty hard). The story is so far much better than I was initially expecting. So far pretty much all my missions have been driving missions and such, so I can't say much about the shooting system yet, though it reminds me strongly of The Godfather game.

There are also all sorts of cool little details: when stealing a locked car, you break the window, get inside and hotwire it for a while. Unlike previous games, Niko will have to start the cars, which though happens automatically. When you collide with another person on the street Niko pushes the other guy away. When you hit pedestrians with your car they turn into ragdolls. Also the fact that you can use the cellphone yourself is awesome.

does this game have cheat codes? (i.e. the "infinite health" or "no wanted level" cheats) I had a lot of fun with them on San Andreas, flying motorbikes never get old.
