Seriously though, I agree and I'm very picky with my metal because there's just so much "Me Too!!!" garbage out there. I haven't heard any TCV yet though, but I really should. What's their style most like? Foo Fighters? QOTSA?

TCV is basically a tribute to most of the styles of the classic rock and hard rock while incorporating some of their own. It's mostly a mix of Led Zeppelin like riffs and poppy yet groovy Foo Fighter beats.

Each song on the album has a different sound, keeping it fresh and veering away from the repetition.

No One Loves Me is a bluesy, sleazy, and sexy song, it's slow and groovy, but it kicks in high gear in the middle of the song. Have the speakers loud on this one.

Mind Eraser, No Chaser is a poppy hit with a very catchy chorus, the bass riffs are not to be overlooked.

New Fang is a backbeat song, using a complex riff arrangements with a driving drumline to entertain the listener.

Dead End Friends is a very fun song to sing once you understand the lyrics. It's another poppish track, but it is extremely catchy, and will most likely have you singing in front of a mirror with a comb.

Elephants' riffs are complex and the song's tempo is all over the place. You need to be on your guard when listening to this song. Still a good track imo.

Scumbag Blues is another bluesy song, mostly influenced by the sounds of the later recordings of Led Zeppelin

Bandoliers has a repetitive riff that will seemingly get in your head with no problem whatsoever. The chorus is also catchy.

Reptiles has a very weird arrangement throughout the song, you need to be at the right mood to listen to this sucker. I like it, but it's probably my least favorite song on the record.

Interlude with Ludes is a song that has to grow on you, it's probably the weirdest song of the bunch, as if they were on something and extremely high while recording, but it's still a very good song to listen to.

Warsaw's sound is mostly influenced by the likes of Iron Butterfly, the riffs aren't driving, but yet still enjoyable, and the chorus is entertaining to listen to as well.

Caligulove's sound is influenced by the likes of the Doors and the Stones. Not much to say about the song since I really haven't listened to this one much.

Gunman is a guilty pleasure for myself, it's riffs are influenced by the likes of disco, yet they are so fucking catchy.

Spinning in Daffodils, next to No One Loves Me and Dead End Friends, is my favorite song on the album, the sound is definitely influenced by Led Zeppelin especially the riffs and beat, and you will have the uncontrollable urge to rock your head or sway your hips when listening to this song.

Take a listen to the album, now.

More of Fire Than Blood - Anaal Nathrakh

I remember listening to this band a couple of months ago, and I couldn't stand them, but I thought it was about time I manned up and gave them another listen. I managed to sit through it, and it even has a few parts I like, I just don't really like the vocals. Black metal and grindcore aren't my favourite genres, so combined didn't sound like my cup of tea. I think I could actually see myself getting into them if I really persisted, but at the moment, they're a bit much for me to handle.

Sorry for quoting an "old" post but WTF? If something is not your cup of tea and it tastes like piss, why do you want to try and drink it? If someone eats donkey shit and says that "DUDE THIS SO GOOD" will you eat it just because someone else says that? There's no point in forcing yourself to like things that you don't really like.

Shit, sorry for trying to broaden my horizons. And I'm not trying to force myself to like anything. I wouldn't even say I like it that much. You know, when someone else says "This song is really great" is it not normal to think "hey, maybe I'll try it out"? I didn't like it at first because I'd never listened to music that extreme before. But since then I've listened to plenty of stuff like Converge and Behemoth that I would've really struggled to sit through back then, and now it's not so hard to handle. Anaal Nathrakh aren't my cup of tea, but how the hell am I supposed to form an opinion of them without even listening to them?

You call yourself a metalhead and you don't even bash bands that you don't know that well. That is what differs you from one. Being an asshole is part of the thing dude. I'm a nice guy, usually, but when someone listens to Metal with their legs crossed and try to fish up the good things from a bucket of shit, it makes me mad. You can't say that you're a friggin metalhead if you don't know what it's all about. And it surely ain't about trying to find the good things from a shitty band. If you don't like something, fuck it. If you don't like something, you don't like it. End of story. I can clearly see that Heavy Metal is not your true ambition (Mutter being one of the best METAL albums ever? No way, man.) because you don't understand the true essence behind it.

You're such a generic "metalhead" it's not even funny. I'm not like you. If I hear something I like, chances are I'll be positive about it. If I hear something I don't like, I will be negative about it. But every band has their ups and downs. Some bands have to be doing things right. For me, it doesn't stop at not liking it. I like to give bands a chance, you see. I now like some bands that I used to hate (Linkin Park, My Chem), and hate some bands I used to like (Nickelback), because tastes change over time. I barely even listen to Mushroomhead anymore. I still like them, but I've kind of moved on from that stuff. I don't find it as appealing as I used to. Sorry dude, but you can't thrive on "sex, drugs and rock & roll" bullshit forever. You can always stick to your guns, but that's ALL you do.

Back to the point at hand, when I listen to new bands, the way I decide whether I like them or not is by weighing out the good points against the bad points. I don't know you personally, but I'm damn sure you didn't like Possessed and Napalm Death when you were 11. Bands like them are an acquired taste... you start to like them once you've listened to them enough to understand them. You don't start liking grindcore like the drop of a hat. Guess what? It took me several listens to be able to stand Converge. But I still went through the effort. I wasn't going to just listen to them once, decide to hate them and never listen to them ever again.

I think it's about time you stopped trying to be so "metal" and learn to look at music from a different standpoint. It sounds like you just like stuff if it's brutal or "true". Last time I checked, you don't listen to anything besides thrash, black metal and hard rock. I feel like I need to inject my opinion into this:

I agree with Ervo to an extent. It does seem like you 'force' yourself to like stuff. If you're talking about putting "effort" into liking something, that's just not what it's about. Sure, I listen to stuff like Strapping Young Lad, In Flames now. A year and a half ago I hated extreme metal like that, now I listen to it a lot, loud, chugging, ground thumping and heavy. Doesn't mean I forced myself to.

I originally got into it with bands like All That Remains and Killswitch Engage. I loved their clean vocals so I would 'sit through' the screaming parts to get to the clean. Then after awhile I actually enjoyed listening to the screaming parts. That's then extended to where I am now. I am still picky with my screaming, but I like the style itself.

Basically, Ervo is saying (and I agree) that you shouldn't put any conscious effort into listening to any music. If you do that, it means there's a reason for listening to the music other than just listening to the music (which is what metal is about.. listening to what you like).

@Ryan.. his point is (and I'm not in any way saying Greg is one) that metal is about the music and the lifestyle, not about being a poser.

Is that really what you got from that post? Cause... I saw him say that the "true essence" of metal is to never try to get into something new. "You call yourself a metalhead and you don't even bash bands that you don't know that well. That is what differs you from one." I mean seriously Ervo, what the fuck. That's what the essence of it is. Ervo took it to the next step, but the basis of it is "Don't put effort into liking something.. you like it or you don't"and I would have to agree. I always refused to like BFMV because of their image etc.. but I listened to their song Hearts Burst Into Fire and actually liked it. I then listened to their Scream Aim Fire album and actually got into most of the songs on it. Still don't like their first album.

While yes, I got into a popular band.. I didn't put any effort into it. However, I know that Greg has gone out of his way to download entire BMTH and Suicide Silence, sat there listening intently "trying" to get into them (to no avail, but that isn't the point).

Experimentation is fine, the problem is when people actually put this conscious effort into trying to be the new "experimental" band. The biggest innovations in music have come from people just being themselves, doing what they like, what "called" them to do it.

It's exactly why a computer cannot design a painting. It requires human emotion.

Whoa. Someone understood what I was trying to say.

And Greg. You say I listen to stuff only if it's "true","brutal", Thrash, Black Metal or Hard Rock? I don't think that stuff like Bootsy Collins, Funkadelic, Eazy-E, N.W.A, Body Count, Rick Astley or Teddy Pendergrass fall in any of those categories?

But basically what you're saying is that I should stick to what I already like and not try new things. How do you think I got into metal in the first place? I'm not at all forcing myself to like anything. What I was doing with BMTH/Suicide Silence was trying to find anything good in their music, rather than listening to half of two songs and thinking they suck period. Back then I couldn't handle those kind of vocals at all, and now I have no problem with it, so it was more likely that I could sit through them and understand them. I ended up still hating them anyway, but there's a thing called "acquired taste" and that's what I'm trying to say. And I thought that I might be able to listen to Anaal Nathrakh properly this time, because last time I listened to ten seconds and couldn't do with it.

Also, if you say metal is all about the lifestyle, what IS this lifestyle? I consider metal to be all about doing what you want and not giving a fuck about whatever anyone thinks about your favourite band, and guess what? I'm doing what I want. I don't care if I'm not "true" for listening to Paramore. (By the way, while I'm here, for the record, I think Manowar are stupid.)

That's just stupidly ignorant, you're not listening to what's being said at all. What's being said is you shouldn't put 'effort' into liking things. You like it or you don't. Don't sit there forcing yourself through something you don't like because you think it might be an 'acquired taste' or to get to the 'good part'. Metal is all about expanding your taste. Don't keep drinking a horrible wine in hopes you'll be able to stand it after awhile, though. Keep trying new things and you like it or you don't.

Can I just cut in here?

Vengeance is right. To get into different music, you have to be able to understand and tolerate that type of music before you can actually start to enjoy it.

If you listen to pop music, but want to expand your tastes to enjoy metal, a lot of people would do what you say they should do: listen to it once, find it too heavy for their tastes and go back to their 'safe zone' (pop). But others give it a few listens, start to tolerate the heavier sound and begin to enjoy it.

There's plenty of "poppy" metal. You can't go from Britney Spears to Meshuggah like nothing. It's a slow change. Find metal that you like, listen to it for awhile, step it up a notch and find something you like, repeat.

This argument seems almost pointless. I'm saying "don't force change", and people are taking it as "don't change". Are people really this dense?

Put it this way: How did you go from absolutely hating In Flames to liking them and even "becoming a fan" of the on Facebook?

... Did I or did I not explain that? I couldn't stand screaming before because I had no emotional reaction to it. I liked bands like Killswitch for their clean singing. After awhile I got used to some of the screaming, and eventually liked certain screams. I then got into more and more screams until I am where I am. I decided after all this time I should give In Flames another chance since the reason I didn't like them before now doesn't apply. First song I listened to (My Sweet Shadow) I absolutely loved. Listened to some more and liked them too.

If I didn't like the first 20 seconds of it I would have turned it off.

It wasn't a particular song, in fact the first song I heard from them was a completely different one that I haven't heard since, I just decided to check out that one I was listening to because it was from their latest album. After listening to it, I decided to listen to the rest of the album. If I recall correctly, it was Take This Life that made you dislike In Flames.

The album art has to match the music, that album is very dark and evil sounding and is titled "Scenes from Hell". I think the artwork portrays the sound of the album very well.

I also happen to love the artwork itself, I don't see anything visually disgusting about it, do you mean it simply looks horrible as in badly made, or that the image it depicts is disgusting?

A lot of extreme metal bands have grusome artwork, but (http://secondopinion.vgb.no/files/2009/10/emperor.jpg) not (http://imbd.pl/image/plyta/5/9d828d394c213f84d6538ebe1edcfd47.jpg) all (http://chaosrexmachinae.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/edgeofsanity_crimson.jpg) of (http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii81/Tony99905/Album%20Covers/Vader-Litany.jpg) them. I can see the logic there.. it does match the title, but what's appealing about it?

Upon first glance it looked like the person on the right was biting/eating the zombie-looking thing. I can tell now they're just dancing. When I said disgusting I meant more like Cradle of Filth.

To me it's just horrible because it's just such an unpleasant image.. I'm all for making an album cover dark.. I don't know, I guess I like a humanistic quality in things. I also don't see what's so appealing about demonic things.

Something that's appealing evokes an emotion you want to feel, right? What emotions does dark/extreme/black metal evoke and why do people want to feel it? (I'm not including all of the retarded satanists who call everyone else "sheep" but then go around repeating the same shit as every other satanist.. they are the biggest hypocritical, messed up group of people in the world).

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000TLA9B0.jpg

Very good deathcore band, love there cool jazzy breakdowns on the guitars in some of the songs. I recommend this band to deatchcore listeners. Though the vocals are heavier than most deathcore I have heard of.

Also,
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/04/Emarosa_This_Is_Your_Way_Out_Cover.jpg

I wouldn't really consider Clutch "classic metal" but they are a good band. To be honest, I couldn't really say what they are.

As for Pan's album art, I think the actual image is quite unpleasant, but the art WORK is quite good, if you get me. If I ever get around to downloading more Cannibal Corpse albums, I'm not going to put any album art on there, it's just too sick for me. I only have the "Kill" album (great album btw) and Hammer Smashed Face, but you get the idea.

Hmm, to me they sound like a stoner rock band with classic/southern rock influences. It's hard to put my finger on the genre. Some of their songs sound kinda funky, too. But yeah, if I was held at gunpoint, I'd say something like southern stoner rock.
