Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!?
First My Word/Spanish/French Coach, Vision/Brain Training, Big Brain Academy, Wii Fit, and the largest load of licensed Disney games that I've ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on, and now this? Screw you Nintendo. Screw you. If I didn't like Smash Bros so much, and hate shooters even more, I would get an Xbox just to keep you from making a profit from me.
You're all a bunch of greedy assholes...turning out new colors of a system as soon as it should go down in price, just to keep it expensive...coming up with a new version with a better screen, when you could have done that with the initial version. I stood in line on release date to get the old bulky platinum DS, and then you reward me for my loyalty by coming out with a better version in a ton of different colors? You're very, very close to losing a customer just because I'm pissed off that I couldn't get the Spice Gamecube that only released in Japan, or the sleek white DS Lite because you didn't release THAT as the initial DS, or because the Wii is only in one color, until it should go down in price, and then you'll announce a black version.

Nintendo are really pushing themselves over the line here... the first Brain Training game was an excellent idea, but now it's just completely stupid. I'm all for family-friendly stuff, but this is really taking it too far. It's a game console not an exercise machine... that's what we have schools and gyms for. If it wasn't for Pokemon Diamond I would've sold my DS months ago.

What the hell are all of you talking about. I don't give a shit if I get flamed for this: its a great idea. Its just a game. Jeez, its not even targeted for you guys (or at least not that I think). Its for adults. Why would you guys care? Just don't pick it up. Get a great game. One that you want. Nobodies even telling you to get this game. You guys didn't care when brain age came out. Nor the sequel. Not even Wii Fit. So why jump all over them now? You're using this as an excuse to complain about things you personally don't like about Nintendo.
And koopa: WTF? Why does it really matter what DS your using? The phat one is exactly the same. Sure, its bigger. Sure, its heavier. Heck, its even ugly. But you can play it, so who cares? And how do you know Nintendo had the Lite ready while the phat one was out? That sounds like an assumption to me (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, WHO CARES what color your Wii is. It doesn't effect gameplay, so who cares.

the original DS's screen was darker, it was heavier, the stylus was small and easy to lose, and it could break very easily. The DS Lite was much more compact and convenient but it got released six months later. SURELY they weren't working on it immediately after the original got released, otherwise they'd be no point of releasing the original in the first place. And about the whole Wii Fit/Brain Age thing, it's that Nintendo are now focusing on these family exercise games instead of putting their all into hardcore gaming that they used to deliver. When the Wii was first announced and we were told it would support full motion control, we expected quality gaming with the ability to be active. Sure, we got some great games for this, but they were only until much later on, and the Wii was the victim of countless party games and bad ports. The DS started off great, lots of awesome games, very few crappy ones, but now it's all High School Musical and pet games, not to mention the entire Brain Age fad.

1: I am aware of the stylus. Yes it was small. But I bet you only thought this once the Lite came out and there was a comparison, unless you had a PDA or something you were used to.
2: They're trying to become a family company (funny, they started out with love hotels), which sadly, Microsoft and Sony aren't doing that well. Nintendo has stepped up to the plate, and they're trying to be the best family company they can be. If nintendo fans have to sit tight through a few family/health games, so be it. It tests how good a fan you are. If you don't like what they're are/have become, leave them. Go to sony or microsoft, nobody really cares.
3: Agreed
4: Same as second half of #2. But, to add to this: somebody said this already, but Nintendo isn't making these games. Sure, they made Nintendogs, but the rest of these Pet sims are made by other companies. Sure they're getting annoying (lion pet sim=WTF), and I believe there has only been two~three HSM games. Not that big a deal.

so, if these pet clones and party games are made by third-party developers, why aren't they on the 360 and PS3? because Nintendo's new systems can support them. The problem is that Nintendo are ALLOWING them to be made. The Nintendo Seal of Quality doesn't mean anything anymore. They don't play the games, say "no, this game is bad, the customers will not be satisfied, we wont allow it", the Seal is only there to assure you that it's not pirated and it's legal. They should really get off their butts and start thinking about the people who made them successful in the first place: GAMERS. I see your point though. My problem is that these games just flat-out suck.

This idea is actually good, i dont think there should be any reason to be mad that it's being released. Nintendo knows exactly what they're doing.
Nintendo is all about reaching for ANY sort of audience; shooter fans, adventure fans, platormers, puzzles, and now that the DS and Wii have unique capabilities, they want to focus on people that would be able to use the game. (Keep in mind what Cerium said though, Ninendo isn't even MAKING the game)
Nintendo knows that people will buy the game, someone always will, and since Ubisoft is both the developer AND publisher, Nintendo just needs to put it all on a cartage, which is not much money in comparison to the percent that they would get from the game's sales.
Just giving my two cents. :p

Who cares what color DS or Wii is out? I mean really should you be blowing a gasket over a different color console? If you like the games the console has why should you care how the console /looks./

Oh and at the nintendo seal of approoval thing. Its not because Microsoft and Sony are denying these pet sims/kid games on there consoles, its because the companies know they will sell well on the DS. I can gurantee no company is thinking along the lines of "lets release pet love care 2 on the PS3" because it isnt likely to sell. If nintendo were to start denying games that would be taking away the rights of the companys to pick which console they want the game on, the only thing the seal is for is to make sure the games are being legally produced on the console. I can gurantee Microsoft and Sony would give pet sims and the like an A-OK if games were made for them.

Jerks.
First of all, Nintendo isn't going to reject a third party game idea just because it isn't the next huge franchise.
Second, Nintendo isn't in it to make you, or anyone else happy. They're a business, their goal is to make profit, and if a game is going to make them profit without forfeiting their ideals, then they're going to allow it to be on their console. Their "multi-colored" releases frustrate me too, but that's not just them being dicks, it's them making smart business decisions.

You people on koopa's defence just need to realise :
1. Just because these games exist, doesn't mean you have to buy them. There have been crappy games ever since the first console.
2. Like others have said, third party game developers realise that if they're going to make a game for non-gamer people, Nintendo's where it's at. There were a lot of cutesy games for ps2 and 1 (at least from what I remember...) but just because there are a boatload more on DS and Wii, just means that their company is doing better for what their trying to accomplish- to establish a truckload of games and things (not-too-shabby quality I guess) that expands through ages and different types of people, whether it's a little girl who will potentially grow up to play more videogames because of these cutesy ones they make now especially for them, or it be grandma and grandpa down at the senior center playing Wii sports so that Nintendo will get a short spotlight on the news. So it's both verry strategic and it makes sence.
3. Nintendo isn't developing a fraction of these games, so don't blame them.

Hmm. How about every game ever? No video game is necessary, and to claim that "Dogz" is unnecessary while "Pokemon Diamond/Pearl" isn't is absurd. It's a matter of opinion which video games are more important than others, but every video game is unnecessary.

Well those pet games aren't completely necessary because
1.) they have already been done before, and better. Nintendogs was actually fun to play, and it felt more like raising a dog, not just messing around with a virtual animal for no reason.
2.) they flat-out suck. I used to have Catz DS and Hamsterz DS and they were absolutely terrible.
3.) they're all the same. What I mean is that if you compare Catz with Catz 2 you won't discover much difference. These pet sims are copy/paste cash milkers.
The thing is, the DS isn't much of a gaming device anymore, it's more of a PDA of some sort. That's good, but they're cutting down on releasing AAA titles like Zelda, Metroid, etc. and focusing TOO much on Brain Age games and lame sim games. I'm all for making games for a good cause but they could at least make them good and have them as a bonus thing instead of devoting their entire freaking company to their development. Nintendo have made lots of health games but I think Ubisoft is to blame here. They made Catz/Dogz/Hamsters/Horsez, all those Brain Age clones, and those new "Imagine" games aswell. Game companies want to make profit but the least they could do is think about their customers. Seeing these games reminds me of DDI's attempts to kill the Wii. The only DS game I bought in 2007 was Pokemon Diamond, and I played it solidly. There just wasn't enough good releases for the system.

Not all the pet games are completely unnecessary, and crappy. Dolphinz, and Tigerz are pretty good games, they got a decent story line, pretty nice graphics, and don't even seem like they belong in the Petz series. I recommend you check them out.

I find it funny how someone 'claims' to have lost all faith in Nintendo because of a game Ubisoft are making for their system.
What are Nintendo meant to say to Ubisoft exactly?!
"No sorry, we do not want your game on our system because some people may not like it?!"
Some people may not like Zelda games or Pokemon games but Nintendo still make them because they appeal to someone! Just like these Weight Loss games will appeal to a certain audience! Ok these games might not sell as good as Zelda or Pokemon but is that any reason to not bring out a game?! When Ubisoft was making the game, I doubt they were thinking its gonna become the number one best seller and be game of the year.
What does "losing faith" in a company actually mean anyway?
Does it mean you dont buy their games no more or you just dont like the company but you'll still buy the games or does it mean your just gonna get rid of everything Nintendo-related in your house?
Im sorta confused, someone help me out:confused:

The Seal of Quality NEVER meant anything except "This game has been looked at and approved by Nintendo." It didn't ensure that it was a good game, it just meant that it wasn't a sex simulator, or nazi propaganda game.

I didnt play the NES because I was born in 1993 but I do know there were some terrible games on there. But these are just made to copy/paste cash by ripping off other games and taking over from REAL GAMING. Anyway, my instruction booklet to Metroid Prime says...
This seal is your assurance that Nintendo has reviewed this product and that it has met our standards for excellence in workmanship, reliability and entertainment value. Always look for this seal when buying games and accessories to ensure complete compatibility with your Nintendo product.
the same for many other of my games including the crappy ones, such as Sonic and the Secret Rings, Medabots Infinity and others.

Nintendo is just going the wrong way, sure you can make an educational game or two but this is ridicolous. On the other hand maybe no more school but only learn on the DS instead of having to go:p But they're making too much of these games. And to me the Nintendo Seal of Quality is a piece of sh*t. To me it just means: There's a game box, a disc or cartridge in it and yes it works.
TheSlyder

ING. Anyway, my instruction booklet to Metroid Prime says...
That's just there to appease people. When the Seal was first created, it was done specifically so Nintendo could sue anyone creating games for their console without their approval. This was because there was a rise in the community of people modding games, or creating their own and selling it. Obviously, Nintendo, being the money makers they are, decided that they wouldn't allow games for their console to be sold unless they got a cut.
I wish I could be more specific, but I don't recall more details than that. (Source is a documentary on the History of Video Games on Discovery Channel.)
