Nice...so they are finally are making a 2.5D Sonic game for major consoles...about F@çkin' time.

I going to wait for this, but which version should I get? Wii or PS3?

It's the same game....my guess is that the only difference will be a slight downgrade in graphics on the Wii, and different (hopefully not motion) controls.

I would probably get the PS3 version, since it would probably look nicer and have more traditional controls. However, the Wii version will probably support control using the Wii-remote turned sideways....just like the old days.

PS2? Come on... I know it was arguably the best console ever released (game library-wise) but seriously Sega, give us a true current-gen Sonic game already. Just let the PS2 die... it's had it's time, just focus on making a great PS3/360/Wii game...

Once again, coming to every console. As expected from Sega, milking everything they can from Sonic once again. Unfortunately Sega has never succeeded with that tactic. The game is going to be very generic.

Please, just PLEASE Sega, make it for PS3 and 360. Most of your games for Wii have been average to crap. If they were to put it on PS3 and 360 only, it would be the first TRUE next-gen (or current-gen, in this case. I just say next-gen because Sonic's last 360/PS3 game sucked) Sonic game.

Sonic Heroes was multiformat and that sold quite well for Sega. And I dont get how you can call this game generic just because its on different consoles?
I mean can you blame Sega for releasing this game on more than one or two consoles? If this is going to be the game that re-invents Sonic and make him good again, they would want as many people to play it as possible. And if that means catering for the people that only have a PS2 and can not afford to go next gen yet, so be it. Good luck sega:p

I didn't present myself very good. Yes, the crappy 3d Sonics have sold quite well, but what I was going after that they are all crappy. And the deal with multiplatformers, the more platforms they are going to make the game for, the more they have divide their manpower, which results as less actual content. Of course the other method is concentrating on the content on one platform, and just make crappy ports for other consoles. The first method is of course commonly used by EA and the second one by Ubisoft. And I am quite confused how people can still trust Team Sonic. I mean, some ten years of crappy Sonic games straight (OK, excluding Sonic Advance 2, it was good) and people still are believing that this is a Sonic game that doesn't feel like sticking a hair brush up one's ass.

you should say that about Sonic on the 360 and PS3. Wasnt THAT supposed to reinvent the series? It was SUPPOSED to, but it sure as hell didn't.

You are right for the most part about that, but Sonic hasn't always been bad in 3D. Some of his earlier 3D outings (adventure 1 and 2) were excellent. Sonic 3D, on the other hand, was not. Despite being the Hedgehog's first 3D game, it failed. The other Advance games and the two Rush games were also great. Sonic Heroes and Shadow were OK (6.0-7.5/10 like) but after that it really started to go downhill.

Umm....you guys DO understand how ports work, right? The whole idea of the port is to just make one game, and then bring that same game to another console, just with controls for that console. It's not like they're dividing their manpower by making it on every console. And even if they were, Sega has never made a game this big in their entire existence. They have ever section of their company, in Japan, the US, and Eurupe, all working on this game. The engine for it has been in the works for the last three years. This is not just another game they through out there. And it's 2.5D. You can't even compare it to Sonic 06. That's like comparing the original Super Mario Bros to Mario Galaxy, or Super Metroid to Metroid Prime. Sure they're the same game character, but the game ideas are so different that there are no comparisons to draw. And stop talking about Sonic 06 already! Sega themselves admit that it was a crappy game. It was only meant to come out on the 360, and be a really cool game, but they admit that they finished it in a hurry and rushed it out before it was the game they really wanted, in order to meet the PS3 launch. Seriously...am I the only one here that reads news articles.

Basically what it comes down to is that this is a side-scrolling 2D Sonic game, and while Sonic Team has a bad record, they have never screwed up when making a 2D Sonic game.

oh yeah, i forgot that. excuse my blatant stupidity in the last few posts. With the entirety of Sega working on the game, it's hard to see how it could fail. The last few games have been made just by a third/quarter/fifth whatever of Sega's studio(s). While it's not completely guaranteed yet, this game is more than likely going to be awesome. I want great gameplay before anything else, but I do hope they put more effort into the story and voice acting too. A cool multiplayer mode would be nice (like SA2B) but it's not completely necessary.

Dr. Eggman returns as the primary antagonist for Sonic Unleashed. In this installment, he has managed to shatter the planet into pieces, and it is up to Sonic to return the broken continents back to normal by retrieving the Chaos Emeralds and activating their power.[1] Sonic's progress is made even more difficult by his (as-yet unexplained) contraction of lycanthropy, turning him into a werewolf at night. It is also said he will team up with a mercenary girl named Alexa Woods.

that quote is from wikipedia. i'm taking that Alexa Woods is another human. *sigh*

Vengeance

OH NO! :( Not another human character! Please, Sega! Don't do this again! Almost every human character except Eggman have been lame and easy-to-hate, and let's not even THINK about that kid from the anime. Having Princess Elise in Sonic 06 was as big a mistake as the entire game on its own. Sonic should never have human characters.

Cerium

Sonic should never have any other characters that dont already exist PERIOD!!!

Im hoping Sega wont create some new hedgehog or cat or racoon type thing to fit in with the story.
Just keep it as Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge and possibly Amy (not because I like her, but because I cant imagine Sega leaving her out.)

Looks awesome. The changing camera angles look like it'll make a fun game.

I just wanna say this; I'm sick of people saying they won't buy a game because of graphics. I know nobody said this exactly, but E-FlowGFX's post pissed me off. Why would you ever sacrifice gameplay for graphics? It's just not sane. Graphics don't matter that much in the long run. Didn't you guys have fun playing old NES games just the same as a current game? Probably. Those graphics sucked compared to new games, but you still had a blast playing them. I hate how the gaming industry is turning to making games more realistic, when fun should be the only thing that matters. I don't care if a game got a bad review. I don't care if it takes full potential of a consoles strengths. I don't even care if its not innovative or original. I just want to have fun playing a game.

not flaming or nothing but i didnt mean that, first of all its the same game none the less, but for the wii maybe the will incorperate the motion sensor thing and its cool to play, and for the ps3 it will be the SAME game but with stunning graphics, most of my friends bought the ps3 because of graphics, now there stuck playing CoD4 with the same traditional controls, i myself bought a wii where i could play CoD3 or resident evil 4 with some crazy gameplay. im not a fanboy for either console, ima get myself a 360 in a couple months because i like some good graphics here and there but what can i say.

i agree with you on the gaming having to be fun, i give a rats ass about graphics, i recently dusted off my 64 to play mario 64, the choppiest mario made in history (sarcasm) but i like it because its fun, so yea thats what i have to say

I am literally cheering with joy that Silver isn't in the game. He was possibly the one of the most annoying and generic character in video game history. I absolutely hated playing as him in Sonic 2006 because he was WAY too slow (i know they wanted to make him different from sonic, but he was so slow it got boring) his psychokinesis make the game lag like a Halo 3 server on launch day, and he had the most god damn annoying voice ever. I always hated how he was so immature and thought he could save the universe etc, and by god, having Amy mistake him, a WHITE HEDGEHOG WITH FIVE SPIKES STICKING UPWARD, for Sonic, was ridiculous.

You have to admit, the psychokenisis thing was cool, not how it was executed in he game, just the idea was cool. His looks were meh, but his attitude could've easily been changed by the voice.

The E3 thing looks great, but the Were hog section should feel more intense. The only truly horrible thing I see right from the beginning is that it is easy to miss a ledge during the day levels. I love how they put the warning thing when an obstacle is coming up at high speed.

The only thing that sorta concerns me so far is the difficulity level. From what i've seen so far, the gameplay looks pretty straightforward and hard to die (apart from the obvious, falling off the stage into nowhere). Im just sorta worried this will be the type of game that I can complete in a few days. I want there to be more replay value (and by that, I dont just mean taking a different route in the same level which doesnt really add anything new to the experience.) Sonic '06 was a bad game but at least it was sorta challenging (mainly because of the shitty camera and controls) and it also had some replay value like the side missions....etc

yes, actually. Shadow sounded really generic in SA2 and Heroes. His voice had no depth, he always spoke in the same tone. He didn't sound like a "evil clone of the main character" he sounded more like a minion or something. In '06 he was more gruff, gritty and the kinda guy you could see kicking a lot of ass, instead of being an emo all the while.
