Has anyone here seen anything this epic? Look at those Chimeran battleships or whatever they are, and that mega-Goliath thing. What is that thing with the tentacles? Man..
So aparently Hale isn't the only one "resistant" to the Chimeran virus. He has been picked up by the Black Ops (seen in the final cutscene of the first one) and has been put into a program known as The Sentinels. Angered by their defeat at The Battle For Britain (yes I'm naming the battles myself) the Chimera have their eyes set on the one continent which still poses a major threat to them, North America. Striking from both coasts they attempt to take out the one country which stands in their way to dominating the world. The human survivors will not let this happen and the entire world will unite to destroy a common enemy.
For those who haven't played the first game and/or don't really understand the Resistance universe, imagine a post-WW2 scene, except The Great Depression didn't happen and the Nazi party didn't rise to power, thus actually preventing WW2. Instead, a seemingly alien force arose from Russia and swept up Europe.
^^ Ultra simplified.
This game will be made of pure, 64karat WIN.

This game looks fantastic. Times like this I wish I really did get a PS3 first, and then my 360 later since the price has like, halved since 2006. 60-player multiplayer? Even though I can't connect my consoles to the internet (don't have the right devices/equipment) I'd sell my own clothes if I had to.

I gotta say, while 60-player multiplayer sounds great on PAPER, I'm not sure if it's going to be that much fun in the actual game. It's gonna be near impossible to spawn without dying. I prefer online games with around 16-24 players. It's a lot less crowded and A LOT more fun. Hell, even Team Tactical in CoD4 is amazing, and that only takes up to six people.

you have a good point there, and I was wondering the same, but I guess the maps are gonna be like, GARGANTUAN. like, thrice the size of a CoD4 map.

If it's three times the size of Shipment, then it really won't make a difference. :p
I'm assuming it's going to have dedicated servers, cause no way is any one person going to be able to handle all those players.

yeah it's gonna have dedicated servers. If i remember correctly, the first one did.

that all depends, the maps are gonna be huge so that may not be a problem and that would only be relevant to a deathmatch. the other mods will have teams of like 15 working together, like a 4 team deathmatch/ctf and so on, spawning in there own bases and such. also in the first resistance there was 0 lag with 40 players, we are now onna have 60 players with 0 lag, (insomniac are the best ever!):D

The maps are going to be like, Battlefield size.
The game is also going to have driveable vehicles in online multiplayer. I can't wait to have gigantic Chimera-Human battles.

I'm not really hyped up about it since the last game had a OK campaign and a dull multiplayer, but still ill defiantly pick it up when it's released.

i cant really say im hyped up for this. just because i dont have the first, which i know i probly should but id rather stick with cod4 for now.
i may have to get this or play it at my friends house just to see how this 60 player thing will go down.

My experience with gigantic multiplayer battles hasn't been that great. That's why I thought that Gears online was so perfect- it was at most 4 v 4.

Even if you don't like it, you have to admit that it is one of the most influential online shooters of all time (second maybe to counter strike).
But yeah, 40 player online was awsome in Resistance 1, there is no reason it won't be so in Resistance 2.
Even if there is the small chance it doesn't work well, you can still play traditional 4 vs 4 or 8 vs 8 games. Heck, even 20 vs 20 is still less than the full monty.

Well, yeah. That, Counter-Strike, and Battlefield 2.

Agreed, the battlefield series basically spawned the idea of "online war-shooters". Battlefield series also currently support up to 64 players (four more than Resistance 2, but BF2142 is on PC).
So the argument of "it looks good on paper" really isn't that valid, BF have been doing it great for the past decade-almost.
Also, Frontlines: Fuel of War supports up to 50 players, that game was shunned for it's single player, praised for it's multiplayer (7.6 or so-ratings)

I don't think you read my post properly. I was saying "Get it for sure..." and "on a PS3, it's...." as two seperate statements. Besides, anyway, if I had one, i would get the PS3 version

Well, I have played a PS3 before (my friend has one, and I've played some at stores) and I absolutely loved Devil May Cry 4 (i have it on 360 and it's just as good) Ratchet & Clank and Motorstorm, and after recently finishing Killzone, i am absolutely pumped for the sequel. Not to mention Resistance and Resistance 2 (which this thread should actually be about...) and Uncharted, the PS3's got a great future ahead of it. Not that I don't like the 360 or anything, I love it, but mine teeters on the very edge of functionality (i'll explain later, i kinda temporarily got the RRoD) and a lot of the killer games are being ported... I love em both dearly, I just tend to lean slightly more towards the PS3... after all, I've been a loyal Sony fan my whole life, believe it or not (the playstation was my first console (unless you count the Sega Megadrive my parents had before I was born) and the PS2 is my current favourite console).

I kinda was the same. I got my PS2 and never thought of even TOUCHING one of the other consoles. It was my life. My brother and I played the hell out of that thing- between the Jak games, Gran Turismo, NFL 2K5 (best sports game ever), Splinter Cell... God, we fought over that system so much. I thought we were Sony for life. But... My brother got an Xbox (original) a few years later and I couldn't believe it. I thought he had gone over to the dark side. I shunned him. Then he got a 360 about five months after they were released (a "pick-me-up", he called it, cause he just had surgery) and I was even more hosed. I thought we were going to save up and get a PS3 when they came out- at the time, I thought it to be a far superior console. I used to TRASH the Xbox systems. I wonder if I can dig up some old posts on the Insomniac forums... Anyway, I refused to play his 360 with him. He finally convinced me to, and I just... Wow, I just fell in love. Do you remember your first achievement? It was like pure ECSTASY. I just, like... It was amazing. I think I played his 360 more than he did for the first few months he had it. And oh man, EMERGENCE DAY! Ohhhh wow... Good times... *nostalgic* I finally got my own 360 last April, I think? and boy, I couldn't imagine life without it. It brings people together, y'know? That's really why I got my own; so I could play Vegas online with my brother. And now pretty much all my friends have them. Ahhh, Live, what would we do without you?

Resistance online was, for me, one of the most fun online shooters I've ever played. Halo and Halo 2 were really good games but for the most part I didn't see the big deal of people treating them as gods and having like 5+ million people online at once. It was so hard to find a good game in Halo 2.
There is no reason to question Insomniac's ability to present an amazing 60 player experience, their FIRST venture into online gameplay was met with ovations and hailed as one of the best online shooters of next gen. I think doubting it is unnecessarily negative.

actually, if i'm correct... Insomniac's first online-enabled game was Ratchet & Clank 3. Regardless, it was tons of fun. Hell, I had the time of my life even on the split-screen offline multiplayer with a friend.

Yeah but I didn't count that because it only supported, what, 1-4 players? It also wasn't very popular at all (nothing to do with quality, people just don't buy platformers for online)

i think it was 1-8... or 1-16. can't remember. Ratchet Gladiator/Deadlocked also had multiplayer, and i think that went up to 32, or something. idk, but it was a lot more team-/deathmatch-based than the others.

I think some tend to forget that in Resistance, every match isnt 40 players, you can set matches up with howevermany you like. (2 vs 2, 4 vs 4, 8 vs 8, etc.) also icefox, in think vengeance is correct, you should get it on PS3, mostlikely because the game may just be cancelled for the 360 since Miscrosoft isnt budging on allowing mods over their network the 360 version would only carry a couple of maps so i guess the story mode would be cut or be really short. and whats is UT without mods? a very fun experience, but the more maps/mutators/modes/character models the better right?

No vehicles in multiplayer?
No emphasis on cloven?
Two weapons at a time only?
Full-regenerative health?
What the hell!?!?!?!?!?!?
