Well, I was just reading Feed's "Complete Tutorial On Making Professional-Looking Boxarts" and I realized that he didn't even post one tutorial.

So I have an idea. In this thread, we can share on how we made our boxes, so maybe a newb could learn a thing or two.

Who'd wanna start first?

This sounds awakward, maybe there should be a question first?
Well, I have one. How do you guys think the idial back of a box should look? the arrengment of the screenshots and text in there and such stuff? Sometimes people like a back over another and it just confuses me as of why.

Well, it depends on the type of game.

Here's a tip, if you're doing Horror games (Resident Evil, Silent Hill etc.), bloodied polaroids as frames for screens do the trick.

Yes, I guess it is all about decoration, isn't it? This takes more work, sadly, -.-"

I guess this thread died sooner than later. :p

Anyway, anyone wants to know how I did any of my boxes?

Just ask which title and I'll be happy to show.

well, everybody has their own style on making boxes. You may not think you have your own style, but you do start to develop your own style after awhile....which is a great thing. However, it's also good to adapt and try out different styles for different boxes. Ofcourse, there are certain "unspoken" (It is not for me to say...sry....) rules of organizing elements in either back or front of boxes, that makes the BIG difference between a great boxart and an awesome one, even if the two boxes use the same artwork/images.

Personally I love making boxarts, because of the new skills/lessons I learn for each box I make. I recently learned how to use grunge effects and the whole polaroid blood spattered screenshot templates for my RoR box, and clipping masks shots for my MGS3 box. The vets with the "designer's eye" know and use such skills to make outstanding boxarts and to judge other boxes as well.
So I encourage everybody to try applying atleast one new designing skill for a new box, that way, we can all better ourselves and be better artists. Right now I'm learning the pen tool....yes, the pen tool. Illustrator is great, especially for logos ;)

Yeah agreed. I have learnt skills by doing boxarts.

And it's really helpful for my school work.
