I've been wondering how to do that too actually, I saw it on a couple of boxes. but it definitely makes the box look more official when put into good use, like in dragontear's mgs4 box :)

[Feed]

1) New document -6x6 pixels
2) Erase backgrond
3) Paint the rows of pixels with black.
4) Define pattern
5) Open image you want to be lined.
6) Pick pattern brush tool
7) Pick that pattern
8) Paint all over the pickure on new layer
9) Set blending mode to overlay or lower the opacity.
10) ????
11) PROFIT!

Actually, the width of patter varies for random images. so you may try to make 4x4 new document and paint 2 rows and etc.
