The Veteran/Newbee Competition of 2007

How it works:

This will be a competition divided in to two different contests:

• The “Newbee” competition of 2007: The rules are clear no noobs, this is serious stuff and I will not tolerate effortless box arts. This Competition will need 16 participants.

• The “Veteran” competition of 2007: In this contest there may only compete artists which have quite some Photoshop and boxart skills. The rules here are the same as the “Newbee” contest. This Competition will need 16 participants.

The Tournaments will be different compared to each other. The Veteran Competition will be tougher and harder than the “Newbee” Competition. Also both contest will have a Winner/Loser contest. The contest will be bigger and maybe more complicated than other contests in the past.

This tournament is not just about video game box art, but also DVD cover art, Posters and remaking a box you’ve made in the past ( which I will explain sometime). You can expect unexpected things for the rounds I make.
I will pick a category with rules, ( What console, 3D, just the front, etc.).
I'll give you a week to make it, before the deadline PM me or e-mail it to:
ziggystokhof@gmail.com.

I'll create a thread for each round, the VG Box Art members will pick who wins by voting. The first person with eight votes wins that round.

The people who'll be in matches will be planned, based on how many boxes I receive. This is to avoid people winning by default. It will also be based on their skill.

Cheating:

There will be strict rules, you may not use an alt-account to vote on yourself, or you"ll be disqualified.
NO, use or modification of older boxes when said you may not use older box arts.

Voting

Clear Rules:

Rounds will have rules on how you make the box art. For example, in round 1, the box may be for platform games, and it has to have pictures that you edited.

When voting, say what you think is the better box art in this forum where that round is listed. Your votes must not be retaliations and must be about the box. You must also have a sensible reason. If you are a participant, please vote for your fellow box artists, so the game is kept going at a good pace but that is not a rule but a recommendation.
The threads made by the host may only contain comments related to the subject, no off-topic comments.

An important addition to the explanation above…Do no offend the opponent, for example: I like Mad Spike’s box better then Ninjamojo’s because I don’t like Ninjamojo.

I disagree, the boxes in the Hall of Fame won't always be made by veterans, I won't say anyone specifically.

Newb: A person who is new at something, yet willing to take advice from others and learn from their mistakes.

Noob (n00b): A person that is new at something, but is ignorant and lashes out at people for giving criticism. Also known as a troll in some cases.

I agree with your first suggestion, but I don't really feel the same about the second. Unless maybe once all the votes are tallied they the person who made the box is revealed? If that's what you were thinking then I might agree, but nobody on this site is really that biased against another artist. And when someone is, it's usually pretty obvious.

Ok, ill explain. This would make poeple vote for the BOX, not for the author. People often vote for their friends, withour even thinking or comparing.
