July 9, 2007 - Rumor (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/801/801981p1.html) has become truth this morning, as Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that it will slashing the price of the 60GB PlayStation 3 model, while also introducing a new 80GB model in the US and Canada.

The 60GB version, previously priced at $599 US ($659 CND), has been lowered to $499 US ($549 CND) starting immediately. The 80GB SKU, already available in Korea (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/790/790227p1.html), will ship on our side of the pond with MotorStorm packed in.

Sony also confirmed that it plans on shipping more than 120 new first and third-party games in North America throughout the holidays and fiscal year.

The new 80GB unit comes with MotorStorm in AND on the box.

"As we move into the next phase of PS3, it's important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA. "The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PlayStation Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold."

Technologically, the 60GB and 80GB PlayStation 3s will be identical other than hard drive space. yeah it sucked soo bad to the point that it has exclusive titles like MGS4,FFXII,FFvXII, Ratchet and Clank 5 , EyeDentify,Eye of Judgement, Killzone 2, God of War 3 , Kingdom Hearts 3. and im sorry what does the 360 offer after BioShock,Mass Effect, Halo 3 ? it doesn't suck and it will never will , the truth is that the PS3 is doing a lot better than the 360 when it first got released, just check the first titles released for 360 in 2005-2006 the only quality Exclusive title that got released in 2006 was Gears of War .

Doesn't matter at this point any more. Sure they may see a surge in sales for a month or two like what happend with the PSP price drop but i think that it's too little too late.

jeez you guys are such fanboys. I agree with you Hunter, i mean I would buy a PS3 right here, right now, but the only reason i'm not buying one is the price. :( If they drop the price by another £100 then maybe i'll consider, but right now i'm not too interested. The Wii is basically a last-generation console with next-generation technology. I mean just look, nearly all of the next-gen games are for the PS3, 360, and PC. But the Wii just has ports from older consoles. I thought it was a silly idea to have a Resident Evil 4 port to the Wii, it's a 2-year-old game that everybody's played before, i know the Wii version is better but would'nt it be more convienient to have it Resident Evil 5 instead? No, we should have a port of the one before. Just look. Manhunt 2, Heatseeker, etc, for the PS2 and Wii. I love Wii as much as the next guy but you have to admit it's not really next-generation besides the controls and innovativity. Now please let's just stop with the lame stupid fanboy arguments.

I disagree with you that Kingdom Hearts would be for PS3, now the succes of the Wii is so tremendous, and SE develops many games for the Nintendo consoles. It's also likely that "KH III/the next series"
will come to the Wii or DS!
Also it's rumored that there will be a MGS4 for XBOX 360 AND THE WII (based on a interview with the Konami CEO, if MGS4 comes to the Wii it will be a modified version of it) and there is also rumored a FFXIII spinoff for the Wii and DS.
The PS3 may have a few very good exclusives, but there's a big chance that most of those games will be ported to Xbox 360 and Wii!

cool i got my ps3 from my neighbor for like 400$ though and hed only played it for like 2 weeks. Also i dont give a rats ass about exclusives i mean come on even if a game gets ported normally they have to highly modify it for each system also TM i highly doubt MGS4 will come o wii because then they would have to completely redesign the game also i don't think FFXIII will come to wii its possible but i find it highly unlikely

Metal Gear Solid can still be on the Wii and Xbox360 because Konami is a 3rd part developer which means they can make any game on any system. Also the original Metal Gear was on the NES.

Halo 3 can't be on the Wii because Bungie is own by Microsoft.

kingdom hearts on the wii would be cool but if we wanted a "next-gen kingdom hearts" then it should be on the PS3 (and xbox 360, i mean you all say it should be on the wii, why not 360 as well) because the Wii isn't really a next-generation console. They might as well make a port of Kingdom Hearts 2 to the Wii and make KH3 for the PS3 and possibly 360.

i desperately want Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and possibly Killzone 2 although i'm quite skeptical about the latter, so if the PS3's price lowers down by at least a half then i will definitely buy one.

yes but that's only SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. If you look all the proper "next-gen games" are for the PS3, 360 and PC. The Wii just gets ports from the PS2. Resident Evil 4 got ported to the Wii, there's not much point about that, it's just updating a 2-year old game that everybody's played, why not make Resident Evil 5 for the Wii instead? The Wii also gets ports like Manhunt 2, and soon it will be having ports such as Crash of the Titans and Destroy all Humans: Big Willy Unleashed, there's only like less than 5 actual next-gen Wii games, it's basically a last-gen console with next-gen technology.

and also why do you compare it to the PS2 and Xbox, but not to the PS3 and 360? Almost as if you know that it's a last-gen console...
