It seems like everyone has done a Zelda cover already.

Man, the lighting looks fantastic, but the renders seems really detached from the background and environment.

A lot of edits are required, but this is a stopping point.

The subtitle is quite difficult to see as well, but I'm loving the Deku tree on the back? Is this 300dpi?

I really like the front, but there's just one problem I have with it. It looks like its a snapshot of a scene where all of them are like together in the same environment and setting. But it doesn't make sense for Young Link AND Adult Link to be there together. If it was more of a movie type box, where everyone is different sizes and stuff, and not really meant to be in the same scene, it would make more sense.

I don`t like that on the front the characters are floating.

Subtitle bolded, this is 300DPI yes. The color tone of the back and front do not match, but they will soon.

Young Link removed, characters are actually standing on the ground, shadow added.

No longer floating.

If you're going to have a slanted text box, the text should be as well. The empty space in the lower left corner doesn't look right.

The slanted text on the back is really bothering me. Everything else is straight except for the description. I don't have a problem with anything else.

Slanted text? You mean Italicized?
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/5213/47273077.jpg
You've got a great box coming along, but I can't get over the characters on the front, they are standing straight up on a slanted hill, and it looks unnatural.

Tell me what I should do.
Well if you rotate the characters just slightly clockwise it should look fine, or rotate the ground to make it less slanted, which ever seems like the better idea.

Add some shadows under the renders on the front and back, and try to get rid of that black outlines on the renders, just on the outside. That way it will be more like the same style, and blend in with the background.

And do this^^

There are shadows, I tried to make that standout, there's no way you couldn't catch the shadows on Epona, and obviously Zelda's shadow isn't so strong because she is standing level with the ground.

No, I meant the slanted text box: http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3415/slanted.png
As for the characters, I do agree with Pan that something needs to be done with the ground. The shadows are just fine.

What I would do is get a more dynamic pose of Link, which would make it harder to tell if he is level or not.

Well now the slanted buildings look weird. I still advise you simply use a more dynamic render of Link.

Much better, but now the depth seems weird. As if Link is bigger than both Zelda and Epona.

Technically, it's amazing. Everything looks great and it looks pretty official.
However there's something about the empty space I don't like.

OK, obviously the character I added does not fit, if you have any suggestions for more characters I can add, to make the front look less empty, go ahead.

I like the emptiness. :(
It gives it a larger and bigger feel, which would be better than filling it up with renders that have no place in being there.

This is what I think.
I'll remove that character, now all that remains are the touch-ups, unless someone has some other suggestions. The background cannot be skewed because it'll move the buildings, all I can do is adjust the characters.

The cover isn't finished, but this is an example of the presentation, inspired by Marker.

C'mon, try what I said. Select everywhere but the render, grow the selection size by 1(if photoshop can do that, I know gimp can), and then delete. Then the render wont have such a distracting black outline around it.
Throavium-Redux
06-22-2011, 09:31 AM
Is it really distracting? I can hardly tell without looking at the printable, removing the black lines means that I remove the outlines of the characters, however it'll look weird for artwork to have black lines come to the outside of the render and to meet at nothing because the outline has been removed.

Well, can you pm me the render and the background? I want to experiment with it...

I can reduce the outline, but not completely remove it, which I think is your point.

I think you should redo the front. The renders don't go with the background at all, and I don't think it looks good. Plus, I'm not a fan of them all just standing there.
Throavium-Redux
06-22-2011, 07:51 PM
This cover is finished. The reason why the front looks the way it does, is because I couldn't find any artwork for a background. I'm not going to drown the cover in stars, lights and colors and make a movie poster, this cover is not supposed to be a movie poster. I don't understand the problem with the characters on the front, "standing there". Standing as opposed to what? This is on a horizontal template, I cannot make a character montage.

I guess it's boring.. and weird.. Feels a little standard.
Maybe if Link was the only one there. Like, really big taking up most of the cover? Maybe Epona in the BG? idk.
