Regarding retaliation/unfair votes

[Reed]

Users caught making retaliation/unfair votes will find their voting history cleared and may be banned as well.

This means unfairly voting on someone's boxes (like giving them a 1 when they clearly don't deserve it) simply because you don't like them or want to disrupt their rating. This also includes vote inflation, like giving all high scores to your friend's boxes.

I check the voting logs regularly for this type of activity and it's fairly easy to spot. So, if you're doing this, don't be too surprised to see your votes disappear and find yourself banned. A number of folks have already had their voting histories deleted.

Basically, don't be a jerk, and you'll be fine.

For those that suspect your box has been unfairly voted on, please post a reply here with a link to your box and I'll investigate.

Well, your Franz one was given two 1s. And the PGRT was given two 2s. No 1s there.

The Strangehold one, well, someone was pretty harsh. But it looks like it was simply their opinion, and not a vote made simply to tarnish the rating. They are rather borderline though, so it may not stick around...

Hello Reed - Is there a way for you to implement a system where a user is required to post in the comments when they give a boxart a rating?

The reason i ask is because i've noticed lately that boxes (my FFXII box comes to mind - http://www.vgboxart.com/view/3900/final.fantasy.xii/?replies=12) have been rated a 3 or less without any explination given. I think if someone rates a box, regardless of the score, comments should be left. That way the box artist can see what people didn't like and try to improve on it instead of being left in the dark on what was or wasn't liked.

this is like a "win-lose' situation. We all want to know what people think of our box, hence the forcing of posting a comment. but let's say your in a rush, and you see a box that changed your life forever or something, you don't have time to comment, so you give it a 5 and move on.

Not really, the ability for people to vote an informing rating of a typical opinion who without the time to leave comments appears to 'outweigh' the few trolls who abuse it.

I'm reporting FindRb (http://www.vgboxart.com/browse/author/8988/) for bad voting.
He has given Gunslinger's masterpiece Ar tonelico an 'average' score for being a 'bit' too bright.
He gave Lodovicok's Halo 3 a 3.5 for the sole reason there's a 'a little red light' in it.
He sometimes gives average scores for exceptional boxes with no explanation.

Sure these aren't really bad scores but his criticisms don't have anywhere near enough ground to reason his votes.

Guys, something you soon will realize (and for those of you out there that ALREADY HAVE, you will agree with me here), ratings dont mean jack shit. Plain and simple. If I made a box and it was in the top ten, and it got rated low, i wouldnt give a fuck, because there will ALWAYS be an asshole out there to fuck it up. They are normally jealous people. And me PERSONALLY, I dont buy the "a 4/5 means GREAT"...no, F you, thats an 80%, a B, which means "room for improvement"...so enough of THAT shit...I think the rating system should be stripped off the site. Thats just MY opinion, but oh well. Ive seen boxes that dont deserve to be in the top 20, that somehow make it to #1 or #2...its bullshit. These n00bs are generally younger than 13 (not discriminating, just stating facts), and like less than mediocre games...they also make horrible boxes and get shitty when they are rated low. Then they get angry/jealous, so they retaliate (hence this forum topic)...then they most likely go into Halo 2 and make my ears bleed with their abnormally high-pitched voices. They probably also yell at their mom for chocolate milk. Ill tell ya, more and more bad boxes are submitted every day. What I am planning on doing is making about 5 boxes, and save them, for a REAL BAD DAY here at VGBoxart...then just post them every hour. People should join me. And it pisses me off when someone decides that (as someone jokingly said once) the font "so-&-so" used for the legal information looks unprufeshinul, and knocks the score down to a 3.5 - 4.5 even though the box is clearly flawless.
Another reason that i've seen for someone to rate a magnificent box low, is because it doesn't have a back cover.
sure, it's easy to slap a dev wallpaper on a template and make it look good, maybe even great, but these a-holes need to learn to tell the difference between something like that, and one that took hours to "perfect".
i'm going to quit here, because if i go on much more, you'll just see a bunch of random letters due to my head slamming on the keyboard.

I'm at the point where i just don't give a damn anymore. My Magna Carta box had eleven votes and was around 4.89. It still has eleven votes but is now down to 4.77. Some dickless, not-talent ass clown changed their vote to a 2.5.

I think that the influx of new people on a daily basis help contribute to the ratings being screwed up constantly. I'd like to see a way that voting is restricted to people who have actually created a box. Make them earn the ability to vote. Just my $0.02.

I'm also hoping that Reed impliments the "No Vote" option sooner rather than later. Until then, i'm out of here.

my Wario and Waluigi box, i admit it not hellknight-calibre but i personally think it is one of my best. i try very hard on all of my boxes, and maybe because i'm bored, doesn't make it bad. look at wickedgamer1's warioware box, he said he was bored, but he still got his usual 5's. i personally would give that a 5 but i try just as hard as hellknight and others.

Damn..alot of 1's...see this is why I try not to vote anymore, The boxes are just going to go to a lower rank soon due to, when some N00B or Troll is voting ones or two without commenting. Just like my Punisher box was #1 then when down to #3 after 1hr then the next day it went waaaayy off the chart!

I say we either get a opition to disable vote on our boxes soon or just get rid of the Score board once and for all. 'Cause I'm getting real tried of getting low score on, not only my boxes, but others who should be getting 4's-5's. It's just sad.:(

I think you misread what I wrote...I mean like a few of us who been here for a while, voting on memebers (not their boxes, but themselves to see if there not a troll or N00B) to see if you will be able to vote.
This system will get people who are troll, N00B, haters, and other who shounld'nt be here, from voting 1's, 2's 3's to 4's and 5's style work.

If you worry that, it may idea happen, you worry that you think you won't be able to vote...but don't worry, if you not a troll or N00B, then your ok, if my idea happens.:rolleyes:
