Some time ago I made a little box to hold my zelda games. You can see it in my gallery if you haven't already.

The problem with it, I felt, was that the games didn't match the feel. The box felt like a respectful storage to a legend. The games felt like games.

So I wanted to change it. It's still in its early stages, very simple, I'm still working on how to vary each game, but I'm thinking this one will act as the cover for the LoZ collection disk (The one with Zelda, Zelda 2, OoT, and MM)

And I'm considering writing "History of Hyrule" on it, though I really don't know yet. I'm pretty strongly considering no text.

I've also considered, since it's a three-disk-set, positioning one triangle on each spine so that together they form the Triforce. The problem is that the middle one can't overlap the other two since they'll be three different spines.

Please tell me what you think, tell me if you feel it's too fake looking, needs more pizzaz, or anything like that.

Before you look at it, it's important to take this into consideration:

The Hyrule emblem is made to be a solid color that blends with the box. Once printed out, I'm going to use an X-acto knife to carefully and cleanly cut away the emblem, then slip a reflective gold sheet of craft paper behind it in the game's case. The end result will be a beautiful reflective gold emblem that looks like it's embedded into the leather.

Edit: Upon examining it full screen, I feel I should point out a couple things. The spine isn't that thick, the dark, vertical lines are supposed to be where a book's cover and back have indentions right beside the spine.

The spine is as thick as the "binding strings" that you see pressing through the leather.

Thanks, guys. I'd really like any and all feedback anyone can give me. I really don't plan on changing it much before posting it, so I'd like to get a LOT of opinions on it.

Great idea Slyder. I love the ancient book design, and have always wanted to try it for a Zelda game or something similar. Though I can never get it right, you've pulled it off really nicely!

It looks great, and I'm sure it will look even better when you got it crafted.

wow looks pretty awesome!!

heres an idea, just throwin it out there...

how would you like the symbol actually stamped into the leather? in real or imitation gold leaf? with text possibly also stamped in?

well i'm a bookbinder. i have a great love of zelda and have always wanted to try doing a custom cover or game case featuring the triforce but could never really come up with anything...

so if you'd like, i could give it a shot for you. if you actually have a leather cover, as it sounds like you do, you could ship it out to me and i could stamp that design, or something very close to it, into the leather.

i'm sure thats a rather strange offer, but i figure what the heck, why not ask? so if you're interested send me a private message or email or whatever you like.

if not, i wish you luck, it's lookin great!

This is actually something I've been wanting to do for years for Shadow of the Colossus and ICO, but I don't know how to go about doing it or how to get it done.

While I appreciate the offer to do it for me, part of the appeal of doing it is actually creating it myself, so while I'll pass on sending it to you to have it done, I'd love to get all of the information you can possibly give me on how to actually do this.

Not sure where exactly you are going with this. You are going to make a real box outside of photoshop or something?

Not bad. I would go with a different color tone though. More of a golden color.

For Zelda, I plan on just printing this out, cutting out the crest and putting a gold craft sheet behind it. It'll be like a normal case-insert, but it'll actually have a golden crest.

As for the ICO/SotC project, I've been wanting to make literal books that act as cases for the two games for years. I've even bought a couple sheets of fake leather (Vinyl with leather texture) and was planning on binding a book like normal, use real paper with the center cut out (Book-safe style) and safely mount the disks inside of it.

The problem was that I didn't have a way to do any actual title, crests, or imagery on the cover. I didn't know what kind of tools were required, or how to get it done.

Once I figure that out, I plan on making my dream project a reality.
