Ok, first, you can't say a game is overrated until it comes out.
Second, Halo 3 is quite possibly the most anticipated game ever. The day after the new commercial aired, there were already dozens of videos of it on YouTube and Google Video, in addition to tons of dissection topics on Gamefaqs.
If you look, all the big games have a lot of boxes. Gears of War, MGS 4, LoZ Twilight Princess, but sine Halo is a stellar game, with a massive fanbase, people are so excited that they just want to express their energy with mock-up boxarts.

i myself do agree, halo is kinda overrated.
now dont get me wrong, i love halo and the series is absolutely amaazing, but i get tired of people who only talk about halo and act like its the only videogame out there.
aside from all that, its insane how many halo 3 boxes there are...
I agree with Finalfantaseer I don't mind if a series gets more attention than I would prefer, I can't expect the whole world to have the same feelings I have about certain games.
The only time when certain games get so much attention to the point it aggravates me is when other games have any potential of attention stolen from them.
Halo 2 and Zelda: Wind Waker are quality games but were the ones getting so much attention other quality games like Dark Cloud 2, Metroid Prime 2, Final Fantasy IX and Shenmue II DC were rejected from attention because of the other games that were released at the same time.
If you ask me as long as these games are stealing most of attention from other games, as they do, then it classifies as being overrated because no game deserves to be renowned so much to the extent that other games are ignored;
so using that logic Zelda/s, Halo/s, Gears of War, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil/s are all overrated and ironically I really like all these games.

It's ok to like Halo, heck, i love Halo! But i agree with you all, you can take your opinion about a game a little too far than it should be taken.

They're arguably the worst fanboys and have made such wacky claims as ''FFVII has the 'magic' the other games don't have and is the
best game ever madeTM fact!''
and ''every other FF game is nowhere near as good because the characters are girly and they are not bad arse like Sephiroth and Cloud!''.
The Zelda fanboys are also especially bad when treating Zelda like it's Jesus and it makes all games except Zelda obsolete.

hahaha yeah on amazon i found this list off of listmania for "best of final fantasy" or something like that, and he said something along the lines of: heres a list of bad final fantasy games that you should never play:
(he lists practically every final fantasy title ever made excluding ffvii and tactics)
and then he had those two under a "list" called like: REAL final fantasy games

Halo is overrated. It's like Microsoft and Bungie don't want to make their fans THINK when they're playing. All you do is, walk into a room, shoot, shoot, repeat untill you get a cut-scene. At least with games like Half-Life 2 and MGS there's some though. Plus the story line to HL2 and MGS4 are actually amazing, epic storylines that make you think. I've always hated Halo.

Mr.Speed, just because you would play the game with nothing but pressing the gun button on a easy setting doesn't mean the game has no potential of strategy,
and even though Halo is'nt exackly the thinking man person game, it definetely doesn't make it not fun.
Getting the right guns at the right moment at the right time can be strategy and thus there's thinking.
I barely scratched the surface of a Halo game but that is common sense right and even though it may be overated,
most game frachises are too.

Agreed with EG. I love Halo with a passion. It makes ME think because I am fascinated by the thought of aliens more advanced than humans that are extinct. I love the designs in Halo, I love the concept of Spartans, I love the feel when I play the campaign, I love the novels, and I love playing on Xbox Live. Now, yes, it MAY be overrated, but it is a fantastic game nontheless in my opinion.

You can't just walk into a room "Guns blazing" when you're on Legendary difficulty. You have to take cover, think about your next move, and conserve ammo. Thats why I always feel a deep sense of accomplishment when I complete a level on Legendary.
Plus, numerous people (including me) agree that the story is very deep, (if you play all the games through that is.) and does make you think. The cutscenes are very cinematically done, and with great voice acting on some of the characters, makes for a very engaging plotline.
By the way, MGS isn't a FPS, and thus can't be included in your analogy.

i think halo is OK. but i'm a bit too big a sonic fanboy. in fact, a bit too huge one. maybe i should stop playing shadow so much and go on metroid or mario for a change.......

Exactly, Halo 3 hasnt come out yet, so no one will know if it is overrated or not, but I pretty sure it wont be because the first two pwnd.
